Weather update for weekend 26th November

Grippery 3: This time it’s personal.

It’s still pretty good out there, and still surprisingly firm underwheel. Like the previous two weeks, there will be grease (especially in the sections that get little sun and wind, or where the chalk is obvious) so don’t come expecting dusty conditions, but there are some truly gorgeous autumnal sections to session.

Otherwise it’s a still very mild for the time of year with plenty of sun on Sunday and a brisk breeze helping to dry things out. It will be chilly where exposed, so bring a decent jacket for time in the carpark or having a burger.

To give you an idea of how mild it is, this time last year it had snowed up north and was heading down here… Enjoy!

Extreme Knowhow International Winter Series

3 - it’s the magic number…

As a lot of you know, Aston Hill is going to be the venue for the Extreme Knowhow International Winter Series over the weekend of 10/11th December.

It’s been confirmed today that the race run will be DH3. Apart from being a nice change from the Black Run and 423 used in the past few events, it deals with winter weather reasonably well (well, as well as a trail in the Chilterns can) and is super fun and flowy - good for December conditions.

This is not an Aston Hill run event, so all questions should be directed to Extreme Knowhow, who are the gents wearing the shades on this page.

Any questions about DH3 post below, or you could just come over and ride it!

Bit of advance warning for you guys: DH4 will be closed shortly for a while for some much needed work.

As you’ve probably noticed, DH4 is in a pretty sorry state. It will be a project for the winter and various suggestions have been made regarding how to improve it, but we’d like your input too! If you have ideas it’d be great to hear them at the AGM.

Trail closed for maintenance

Weather update for 19th November

Grippery 2: The Revenge.

It’s been another mixed but mild week and the ground is still surprisingly firm underwheel. There will be grease (especially in the sections that get little sun and wind, or where the chalk is obvious) so don’t come expecting dusty conditions! However there are some truly gorgeous autumnal sections to session, and some great photo opportunities to be had in the mist and leaves.

Otherwise it’s a nicely mild weekend with plenty of sun once the fog has burnt off - the Hill looked absolutely stunning in the early mist this morning. Enjoy!

Weather update for weekend 12th November

Grippery.

It’s been a mixed but mild week and the ground is surprisingly firm underwheel. After tonight’s rain this will make a great base for slime to slide over, so dig out the spikes and expect slippage! To coin an Ian Warby phrase, it’s going to “grippery”.

With any luck it’ll stay on the damper side of things all weekend, but it is forecast to be pleasantly mild which could cause things to start drying out, which is when it will get sticky. Go prepared; take plenty of bike cleaner and a Dirtworker, and don’t forget clean shorts for the car!

Autumn has arrived.

The temperatures have fallen and it’s been a wet week, so it will be damp on the Hill over the weekend. Dig out the spikes!

If you’re riding Sunday keep your eyes open for the dig day happening on DH3 too.
