Weather update for weekend of 6th November

After a fairly dry week, it’s going to be a mixed weekend by the looks of things. While it looks to be fairly wet under-wheel, it’s also forecast to be dry during the day. So basically this means that while you’ll be sliding about, at least you’ll be doing it without getting rained on!

It’s also looking cold but fair for Sunday, which is good for the trail maintenance session. If you want to get involved in this drop a line to gardeningwithoutthevegetables@rideastonhill.co.uk to give Rich and Ian an idea of numbers – if you’re coming over for a ride, please be aware that there are people working on trails!

Also, it’s worth pointing out that we’re entering the wetter part of the year. Aston Hill is a technically challenging venue and becomes moreso in the wet due to the abundance of roots and chalk-based soil. Please ride within your limits on a well maintained bike, as described on the essentials page.

This weeks tune is a little homage to surf legend Andy Irons who tragically passed away earlier this week. Sending positive vibes to his pregnant wife and family.

A little reminder…

Two imminent save the dates you should already be aware of. Just in case you’re not, make a note of these:

  • Trail Maintenance Session 7th November
Fancy learning how to develop and maintain safe, sustainable trails that rock? Well, now’s your chance. On Sunday 7th November at 10.00am Ian and Rich are doing the first in what will hopefully be a series of trail maintenance and development sessions. It’s going to be a full-on, dirty hands morning so come dressed to dig; you’ll be learning skills from years of accumulated digging experience and Rich is firing up the BBQ at the end to warm up those weary limbs!

Drop a line to gardeningwithoutthevegetables@rideastonhill.co.uk if you want to get involved and join the digging list to be kept up to date about forthcoming trail sessions.

  • Aston Hill AGM 11th November
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Aston Hill club will be taking place in the classroom at the Forestry Commission offices on Icknield Way, just outside Halton on Thursday 11th November at 7.30pm. This is where you get your chance to either have a say in how the park is run or stand for the committee (more details on this post). It’s strictly members only – we feel that it’s only fair if you’ve invested in the Hill that you also have a say how it’s run – but if you’re not yet a member and want to have a say, why not join now?

Both are happening pretty soon, so if you want to participate get your emails in quickly!
